Weekly Capsule Wardrobe - May 23

For those who struggle with putting together smart casual outfits with versatile wardrobe pieces that can be dressed up or down, this is for you.

I've put together a collection of items to create a mini capsule wardrobe and styled 7 outfits.

There are lots more outfit options from these pieces and you can substitute similar items that you have already, but here are my suggestions for a week of outfits:

Starting the week with a casual two piece of linen trousers and shirt, both summer wardrobe essentials perfect at home and on holiday. The shirt doubles as a jacket if left open and worn over a simple vest top, as well as a beach cover up. Dress the trousers up with a smarter top or again wear on holiday with a simple vest top and flip flops for the beach.

This seasons most popular skirts are either denim or a cargo style like this one. It's versatile because you can wear it as here, with a heeled mule, an elevated t-shirt and a linen jacket or dressed down with flats and a simpler t-shirt.

Prints this season range from florals to abstracts, but for me this is the more modern choice. This skirt is in silk so it's a little more luxury but you can still wear it with a flat loafer. There's a matching top if you wanted to dress it up for an occasion with a blazer, but I love it mixed with more casual pieces for every day - don't keep pieces for best, make sure you get great cost per wear from them.

Another great wardrobe basic that earns points for its versatility is the T-shirt dress. Here I've paired it with the linen shirt worn as a jacket - don't forget to roll the sleeves of the shirt to show off slim wrists and add the scarf for extra style. For this casual look I've chosen the loafers but the mules would work just as well and if you want to show off your waist add a matching or neutral belt.

What says Spring more than a Breton top? This one is in a lightweight linen knit to take you through to Summer too where you can pair it with linen shorts or pop it over a swimsuit. Here I've mixed it with the cargo skirt and linen jacket for an easy running around doing errands outfit.

Linen is made for relaxed Saturdays and easy to wear flats. So here I've mixed a neutral outfit with a pop of blue in the jacket. If you want to smarten it up a bit add the scarf and swap to the mules.

For Sunday lunch i've chosen the print skirt and added heels, take it one step further by adding a neutral blazer and this outfit would take you to work as well.
